The university was previously named American Graduate University, and is separate from the defunct institution named “Patten University” founded by PEF.

Currently-enrolled Patten students may be eligible to receive tuition-based financial assistance from the Federal Government, including the DOD and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Patten offers an interest-free per course tuition payment plan. New students are not eligible for these programs.
