Community Care and Service
Spiritual Life
Our core values of Faith, Learning, and Community Service give us a framework of fulfilling our mission as a university which is to "provide an excellent education . . . that integrates growing faith and quality learning to inspire and equip men and woman for Christian ministry and service to effect community and global transformation."
In addition to giving each student academic excellence, an awareness of their community, and skills that prepare them for the marketplace, we also want our students to have a "growing faith" that enables them to be agents of transformation in their church, their family, their community, their nation, and their world.
In order to assist each student in their personal and spiritual development, Patten University provides opportunities for growth and service throughout our campus and community. Ministry venues, both on and off campus, range from small groups to worship services; from street evangelism to feeding the homeless; from serving in a traditional urban church environment to assisting one of the many para-church and community service centers throughout the Bay area. In all of these settings, Patten University is seeking to prepare individuals for ministry in the twenty-first century!
Isaiah 60: 1-3 NIV - "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
Chapel Services
Chapel Services are designed to offer the members of the Patten Community a Christ-Centered and Spirit-Enabled, Worship and Ministry experience that affords each one the opportunity to encounter and explore the common pillars of the Christian Faith, the working of the Holy Spirit, and the depths of God's love and truth.
The Rumble
Meeting in the Wycliffe Chapel two evenings a week, we have a time of focused prayer that is lead by students from the university.
Campus Pastor
Pastor Tobey Montgomery and his wife LaRhonda are the pastors of both Patten University and the campus church, Christian Cathedral. They are personally invested in the spiritual growth of each student. Every two weeks they open their home to the University students for a home-cooked meal, worship and Bible study that provides new spiritual insights to those who attend. Pastor Tobey is a regular speaker at chapel services and is available for counseling by appointment.
Community Service
Community is a core value of Patten University and it is important to us that we are a light to those around us. For this reason, each student participates in 16 hours of community service per semester.
