Harold and Dorothy Blumenthal Library

The Blumenthal Library houses a growing collection of more than 35,000 books, over 180 periodicals (magazines and journals in paper), audio-visual materials including videos and music CD’s; daily newspapers, and online access to scholarly databases. The library offers online access to FirstSearch (containing about 50 separate databases in many subject areas); the American Theological Library Association’s Index of Religious Periodicals and monographs (ATLA) and its full-text product, ATLAS; the Gale Literature Resource Center; RAND California; PsychINFO; Proquest; Wilson’s Education Abstracts Fulltext, and information on other select public databases.

The library staff strives to satisfy the information and research requirements of its students and faculty. It serves this body through its Reference, Circulation Departments, Interlibrary loan services, online academic/electronic resources, and the Reserve Book Collection. The Library building also contains the Music Computer Lab, the Science Lab and several classrooms on the upper level of its building.

In addition to on-campus students, staff and faculty, the library also serves the distance learning community, students from the Fuller Theological Seminary, the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) Seminary and Certificate programs, local pastors and interested lay persons, the Christian Cathedral church community, and students from the Assemblies of God Urban Mission Program. It also supports the library of the Patten Academy of Christian Education (K-12 grades).

Blumenthal Library is a member of SCELC ( The Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium) and maintains memberships in the American Theological Library Association, the Golden Gate Library Network, and various other library associations .

The entire library staff and its student library assistants work to promote an effective, positive environment conducive to study, critical thinking and life-long learning.
