Bachelor of Arts — Pastoral Studies  
   


The Pastoral Studies major is appropriate for students who are preparing to serve as pastors, evangelists, or as members of a pastoral staff. It is especially suitable for those whose denominations accept the B.A. degree for ordination.

The major consists of 36-semester units in theoretical and applied studies. Principal aims are to provide each student with a broadly based Christian education in an environment that is conducive to social, intellectual and spiritual growth, and to prepare him/her for pastoral ministry.

Learning Outcomes

Students will:

  1. Form a biblical concept of ministry, as servants of God, that can be applied to church planting and church growth;
  2. Increase understanding and skills in worship, preaching, biblical interpretation, and pastoral care;
  3. Achieve sensitivities and skills for ministering effectively in a multicultural society; and
  4. Apply learned understanding and skills in the church setting.

Pre-Seminary Studies Option

The Pre-Seminary Studies option is designed for students who plan to enter a theological seminary upon graduation to pursue a career in evangelism, pastoral ministry, or educational leadership in the church. It is especially recommended for those whose denominations require a master’s degree or an M.Div. degree for ordination.

The option in Pre-Seminary Studies provides additional breadth and depth in general studies and encourages further development of biblical knowledge through biblical languages.
