Learning Outcomes

Students will:

  1. Be able to distinguish art elements such as line, shape, form, texture, space, perspective and color in relationships to one another in composition;
  2. Be able to manipulate art media well enough to clearly express ideas and values;
  3. Feel and express a higher level of awareness for their own capacity to create visual art, and endorse and advocate for spiritual creativity in their own lives and lives of others;
  4. Be able to identify and distinguish Western and non-Western art and contextualize current art practice within that continuum orally and in writing; and
  5. Cooperate, challenge, defend, evaluate and endorse critical ideas in an atmosphere of mutual respect with fellow art students as they produce and present their work to each other, the faculty and the Patten community.

The Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts degree requires a minimum of 120 semester hours of study. Students in this program must complete 48 hours of Core General Education courses, 30-36 hours within their chosen major, 30 hours of Biblical and Theological Studies courses, and 3 hours of Christian or Community service. Each student, in consultation with his/her advisor, must declare a major no later than the end of the sophomore year. Transfer students must complete a minimum of 30 units of study at Patten University.
